Overview

Overview

The St. Helena Home Vineyard is largely responsible for the establishment of Beringer Vineyards because this site, situated around the present-day winery, first attracted founder Jacob Beringer to the property in 1875. The vineyard is formed of a sloped alluvial fan of rock and gravelly soils with little capacity to hold water. Planted entirely to Cabernet Sauvignon, its fruit has been a key component of the Private Reserve Cabernet since 1982. St. Helena Home Vineyard Cabernet is characterized by classic Cabernet flavors of berries and black cherries layered with licorice and spice and a fleshy mid-palate.

James Suckling

“This has lots of blueberry, blackberry and granite undertone. Full-bodied, tight and lightly chewy. Linear and so long. Love the light austerity and cleanliness at the finish. Drink or hold.”

Lisa Perrotti-Brown, Wine Advocate

“Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon St Helena Home Vineyard has a pure cassis and baked plum-scented nose with underlying licorice, dark chocolate, tar and pencil lead hints. Full-bodied, taut and firmly structured with chewy tannins, the muscular fruit comes off restrained and earthy at this youthful stage, finishing on a minerally note. Forget this one in the cellar for 2-3 years and drink it over the next 15+.”

California, USA

The USA’s most famous and productive wine region - and also one of its most popular tourist destinations. With its stunning scenery (undulating hills crisscrossed by vines, and awash with wildflowers) and vibrant, decadent food culture, it’s not surprising Napa Valley was named ‘World's Best Wine and Food Destination’ in the 2010 Travelers' Choice Awards.

The 2015 growing season was marked by pleasant weather with little pressure from heat spikes or unseasonable rain. A dry winter, common in recent years, was quickly followed by an equally dry spring, leading to an early bud break and fast start to the growing season. Warm weather continued throughout late spring and summer, allowing for the steady and sure development of flavors. The overall quality, complexity and balance in the vines produced exceptional fruit for winemakers. The impact of the continuing drought was evident in slightly lighter crop loads, but the reduction in size was offset by an increase in quality.

Mark Beringer - Winemaker

Mark Beringer, great-great-grandson of Beringer Vineyards' founding brother Jacob Beringer, was immersed in wine from the moment he was born in the heart of the Napa Valley. As the direct descendant to Beringer's first winemaker and one of the most iconic family names in Napa Valley wine history, he knew from a young age that he would follow in the footsteps of his ancestors. As a young man he spent many hours working in his family's wine store in St. Helena, expanding his knowledge of wine as well as gaining an appreciation for wines outside of the famous region he has always called home.
